Storybook Dreams Rabbitry

Storybook Dreams is a small rabbitry located in Central Maryland, U.S.A., devoted to breeding and raising German and German Hybrid Angora Rabbits.

German Angora rabbits are only one of several different types of Angora rabbits. The others are English, French, Satin, and Giant.  Although not yet recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association or the National Angora Rabbit Breeders Club, German Angoras have their very own breed association,  the International Association of German Angora Rabbit Breeders.

The German Angora Rabbit is the product of highly specialized breeding in Germany over the last century, which has developed an Angora rabbit that produces the highest amounts of fiber per harvest, of any of the Angora rabbit breeds.   Also, the German Angoras are known to have much less problems with wool matting on the rabbit and, German Angoras are the only breed of Angora Rabbit which cannot be plucked to harvest their wool.  A German Angora Rabbit's wool must be clipped or sheared from the rabbit on a regular basis, usually three to four times per year.  Under good management, these rabbits will grow wool at the rate of approximately one inch per month, making it possible to obtain fiber with an average staple length of three inches, several times each year.

All pure German Angora rabbits are Ruby Eyed White (REW).  To produce Colored German Angora rabbits, the heritage of the rabbit must include a Colored Angora from one of the other Angora breeds.  High percentage German Angoras with a Colored Angora rabbit in their pedigree, even if the Colored ancestor is a few generations back, may inherit and display colored wool while simultaneously  maintaining the higher fiber yield that German Angora rabbits are renowned for.

My angora rabbits provide tremendous amounts of very fine spinning fiber, in addition to occasionally producing litters and sometimes, baby rabbits are available for sale.

Storybook Dreams Rabbitry offers prime German Angora rabbit fiber for sale.  Prime Fiber is matt free, with a staple length of 2.5 to 3.0 inches in length and sells for $5USD per ounce. This fiber may be combed, carded, or spun as is, right off the rabbit. For felters, combing fiber and shorter fiber is available occasionally for $3USD per ounce.

Sometimes, baby rabbits are available.  Litters of both purebred German and German Hybrid babies are planned.  Contact me for availability, up-to-date breeding plans, or to reserve a bunny.   To ensure health and avoid traumatic experiences, I will NOT ship my rabbits but, if scheduled sufficiently in advance, I'll drive approximately three hours to meet you and personally deliver your bunny to a convenient location; note that an additional delivery fee applies.  For those who attend the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival, my location is only 30 minutes away and I plan to have baby rabbits available for pick up there.

My rabbits are maintained indoors, in a specially outfitted structure with a central, thermostatically controlled exhaust fan system in addition to thermostatically controlled fans on each of the individual rabbit cages.

Although Angora Rabbits are wonderful fiber producing animals, , also, each bunny has its own unique personality and is a part of my family and enjoys supervised play times inside my house, outside of their cages.
